Il faut cultiver notre jardin.

A new Fort de Chartres Heritage Garden Project related endeavor began a few years ago, the creation of the French Colonial Jardin Potager heritage seed packet collections, Herb, Flower, and Early Spring & Summer Vegetables, and Native Garden Collections. This new project is under the name of La Jardiniere’s Heirlooms and is a continuation of the jardin’s mission of encouraging the direct sowing of seed to expand one’s plant choices in a time of rapidly decreasing plant options in modern stores and nurseries. There are now six varieties of heritage seed collections available online at the Les Amis du Fort de Chartres online artisan shop, The Heart of the Illinois Country Heritage Shop. These seed collections are also available in Ste. Genevieve at Sassafras Creek Originals. Sassafras Creek Orginals is a wonderful shop showcasing hand-crafted Colonial/Primitive Early American Folk Art. You are invited to review the heirloom seed selections online while keeping an eye out for new collection varieties and upcoming heirloom plant sale opportunities to be updated here. Any of these seed or plant purchases support this jardienere’s efforts through the Fort de Chartres Heritage Jardin Potager Project and purchases also support Les Amis’ efforts to promote area heritage artisans. The seed collections are packaged in an eighteenth century manor, which includes seed planting instructions and plant histories, with the packets sealed in red wax, with a nod to the era. Keep checking in for updates and a new listing of all the heritage seed collections…
